The Whitest Boy Alive - Dreams

Erlend Øye is one of the more interesting artists in the world of indie rock. He’s probably known mostly for his involvement with Kings of Convenience, who can mildly be described as the modern day Simon & Garfunkel with electronic elements and sometimes Feist. He released a brilliant solo album in 2003 and last year he got involved with a project called The Whitest Boy Alive. Apparently the project began as an electronic band but has since developed into a band with no programmed elements. The band also includes bassist Marcin Öz, drummer Sebastian Maschat, and Daniel Nentwig on rhodes & crumar. I thoroughly enjoy “Dreams”, which is a perfect CD to pop into the ipod and listen to while walking around downtown T.O. It simply has a terrific vibe to it. Opening track (and first single) “Burning” doesn’t really cover a lot of new ground for Erlend, but it doesn’t matter because the very groove it displays is hopelessly infectious. Other highlights are the slightly disco-funk of “Golden Cage” and the stunning and slightly jazzy “Don’t Give Up.”
