Headlights - Kill Them With Kindness

Joyfully taking a cue from other boy meets girl indie pop bands like The Delgados and Stars, former Absinthe Blind members Tristan Wright and Erin Fein have put together a very delightful debut with "Kill Them With Kindness." I personally enjoy the artfully placed harmonies in songs like "Put Us Back Together Right" and "Owl Eyes," both of which have a driving beat and tight orchestration that likely sounds doubly amazing in a live setting. "Words Make You Tired" opens with a synth-laden Nu-Romantic majesty, that refrains from cheesiness thanks to Erin's passionate vocal style. Finally, "Hi-Ya!" is slightly reminiscent of a time when Duran Duran was welcoming us to "Planet Earth." There are also a few brief blips of experimentation that shows us that the band are open to trying new things, which intrigues me as to what the future releases hold out for them.
