Recliner - Tranquilizer

Ultra-spasmodic rock 'n roll heroes! That's what I think of San Francisco's Recliner. With their debut CD, 'Making A Friend', they've proved that they got the spirit of the Pixies in their blood and the relentless pounding madness of the Foo Fighters in their soul. The latest CD, 'Tranquilizer' shows that the band is more than simply a one-trick pony. The CD begins with the brief but to-the-point rocker 'The Great Destroyer' which leads nicely into 'Masuki Jones', an extremely catchy pop tune. 'Float Away' rocks with ferocity (again reminding me a little bit of The Pixies, which is never a bad thing,) and 'She Said What?' is a sharp blast of the insane. Another interesting highlight is 'Hello Sun', which stirs the pot a bit by mixing in a bit of Jackson Browne-style sunshine pop. The CD isn't very long, but it leaves the listener wanting more. I don't personally think it's possible to truly dislike this band. The music is contagious, the songs are well crafted; and I've got a feeling that the band will continue to get better with each release. So get on the Recliner bandwagon now, because it's bound to take off eventually and this may be the release that does it.
