Art Brut: Bang Bang Rock & Roll

Gotta love the Brits! And the thicker the accent, the better. Art Brut has been enjoying quite the buzz in their hometown since their full length CD "Bang Bang Rock & Roll" was released there in May of last year. Well, a year later this superb CD is made available in America. They clearly know how to rock, but with tongue planted firmly in cheek. They have that quick-witted British humor that not everybody on this side of the ocean understands, but it certainly makes them stand out in comparison to some of the pretention otherwise cluttering up the airwaves. Pretty much every single song has two or three quotable lines that make me smirk. For example, from the song "My Little Brother":

'My little brother just discovered rock'n'roll/ There's a noise in his head and he's out of control/He no longer listens to A-sides/He made me a tape of bootlegs and B-sides/And every song, every single song on that tape/ Said exactly the same thing/Why don't our parents worry about us?'

A poke at the whole emo scene perhaps? Likely not. Emo's not so big in the U.K. But you do get the sense that the band is a little disenchanted with the music scene and is looking to offer something fresh and original. If you feel the same way, than check out their style of indispensible rock 'n roll.
