Guilty Pleasure #1 - The New Cars

Rik Ocasek once stated that he would rather have "hot diarrhea for six months than tour with the Cars for six months." Whether or not the sad passing of Benjamin Orr only made him stick to his guns even more cannot be certain, but for whatever reason he decided to stay away from this project. In my mind, I always figured: no Ric, no Ben, no Cars! So when I saw that Blondie was currently on tour with something called The New Cars, I have to admit that I cringed a little bit inside. There's no way that this is a good idea. Than I heard that Todd Rundgren is Ric's replacement. Now I love Todd Rundgren. But still, I couldn't help but think that this just doesn't feel right to me. However, out of curiosity, I had to check it out. Well right from the opening notes of the first single "Not Tonight", I knew this sounded familiar. The New Cars sound exactly like the Cars! I listened to the song again. And again. And again. This tune is the perfect summer song and it proves (much like Ric's solo work) that these guys still know how to write the perfect pop song. I hope the rest of the album is as catchy as this one!
