Dead Heart Bloom

Dead Heart Bloom, a.k.a Boris Skalsky, has released a dark, eclectic album that just may be the most satisfying release of the year so far. After the breakup of his previous band, Phaser, Boris channelled all his anger into an album that, while shifting into several different styles, manages to flow in such a way that it actually works best when listened to all at once. Many are quick to make comparisons to Beck, but only one or two songs actually sound vaguely like him. You'll also slightly hear Eels, Radiohead, Nick Drake, Ed Harcourt. But, most of all, you're going to hear Boris Skalsky. Because this is such a unique album that really doesn't compare to anything else. It definitely falls under the D.I.Y. asthetic. He basically plays all the instruments himself, with only a few exceptions. Also, in an excellent interview he did with Under The Radar magazine, he stated that he would never release anything again that he didn't have complete control over. This includes cover design, liner notes, campaigning, image, etc, etc, etc. He does it all. And the album is available for free download on his website which I highly recommend doing right away.
